COSTA RICA FISHING - Costa Rica offers an excellent all around destination for tourists, retirees and investors of all types and from all backgrounds. For the avid fisherman Costa Rica is paradise. If you want to set your line in a fast Tarpon try the flats along Costa Rica's North East coast. If you have your eye on something bigger head to the Jaco and Los Suenos area for some of the best deep sea fishing Costa Rica has to offer. Marlin, Dorado, big Bluefin Tuna, Sword and Sailfish abound in these waters. If "off the side of the boat" or inshore fishing is more to your liking try for Sea Bass, Grouper, Flounder, Snapper and many more species. THE CENTRAL WEST COASTThis area includes Puntarenas, Jaco, Los Suenos, Quepos and Manuel Antonio. There are two main and one 'minor' ports in this region that offer offshore deep sea fishing charters to clients. These are the marina at Quepos, the world class Marina at the Los Suenos Resort, and the port of Puntarenas. Puntarenas is mainly oriented toward the large cruise ships on the large western docks and private vessels that moor in the shallow waters 'behind' the town proper. Some of these private boats are chartering out of there. You would need to inquire in the area to see which. Quepos has several operators using the community Marina. If you are try to get there from San Jose or the airport follow the signs west through the mountains and past Orotina. Once you reach the Coastnera you will follow that South past Los Suenos, Herradura, Jaco, and Parrita. Once you take the last turn off to the right just outside of Quepos, follow that road straight to the docks. It's a fair drive to get there but worth it once you get away from the old docks and head out to sea, following the coast past spectacular Manuel Antonio. Quepos Sailfishing Charters Los Suenos is the centre of West Coast fishing in Costa Rica. It has an incredible marina, a large selection of boats to choose from, decent restaurants, fantastic accomodation, and just about every other service you may require. Follow the signs from the airport to Jaco and just before you get there you will come upon Herradura and the sign West leading to the Resort.
